Lot 1622
Licinius I (?), 308-324. Follis (Bronze, 24 mm, 3.78 g), uniface mint error, Thessalonica, circa 312-313. Blank. Rev. IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN / •TS•Є• Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding Victory on globe in his right hand and long scepter in his left; at his feet, eagle to left, holding wreath in beak. RIC 60 ff. Very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This uniface mint error probably resulted from an unstruck second flan being stuck in between the coin and the obverse die. We have tentatively attributed it to Licinius I, but it could also be an issue of Maximinus II or Constantine I.
